Stormy Weather

A storm system moved through yesterday bringing high winds and not much rain. The clouds as the system moved out were really pretty.
The high winds caused a power outage while I was eating supper with L--we had to put the food away by candlelight. The power stayed out for about 3 hours (I didn't stay there the whole time).
The high winds also blew down part of a Bradford Pear tree in our front yard. Fortunately, it fell away from the house, so no damage was done.
The birds seemed surprised at the sudden appearance of a playground near their eating area (think McDonald's play area), but soon came to enjoy being able to grab a bite, then go play, then return for another bite. I think they'll miss their playground when M gets it all cut up and cleared away.

Gone With the Wind!

A thunderstorm blew through this morning dropping about half an inch of rain and minor destruction in its wake. Branches were down all over our road and several homes had portions of trees down also. The sumac trees by our driveway lost a large branch that blocked the drive. We also lost most of our large Weeping Willow in the front yard.

The Weeping Willow had three trunks and the largest one was broken off--if you look carefully, you can see that it even lifted part of the root from the ground.
The tree covers my Calla Lily bed--hopefully they weren't permanently damaged--it is mostly the smaller, upper branches covering them.
The downed portion of the tree just missed the bird feeders and is taking up most of the open space in the front yard.
