Pathfinder Lock-in--Day 3--Sunday Morning

Sunday morning started with some drilling and marching before breakfast.

After breakfast, we took the model rockets to a field behind the school to fire them off. All firing was done by staff.

The Pathfinders remembered a lot of the safety rules as well as the rocket parts.

Of the twelve rockets launched, eight were recovered and four disappeared never to be seen again.

Most of the Pathfinders went home by 10:00--those that remained, along with the staff--helped erect a new dining canopy--it has walls to keep us dry if it rains. It was a good thing we practiced setting it up before an actual camping event--had to work out several glitches--should work well next set up. T and I got home about 12:30--tired and hungry (fortunately we had some leftover pizza so didn't have to wait to eat). It was a good weekend.

Another Nice Day--A walk in the Yard

Sunday was another beautiful day with highs near 60 degrees. L came home (stayed until Tuesday--had to work on Wednesday). She and I and the dogs went for a walk to check the ponds for ice.

In a tree along the property line by the melted pond, we saw this pair of Pileated Woodpecker holes.

Later Sunday evening, I went to Sonic to get Mr. M a burger. A funeral procession was headed out toward our road (there's a cemetery about half way down the road), so I decided to take a detour to Lake Westmoreland (a large water department pond with many geese and ducks). A flock of Canada Geese flew up as I approached. I saw mostly the Canada Geese and Muscovy ducks. I took Mr. M his burger and went home. The kids had gone to a Super Bowl Party and M and I had pizza without them.

Saturday night was the Pathfinder Pizza Fundraiser/Church Social. The Pathfinders are raising money to go to the International Camporee in Oshkosh, WI next August. Over 30,000 Pathfinders from a hundred countries are expected to be there.

The Church Social Committee decided it would be a good time to have a family game night and invited folks to bring their table games to play after supper.

It was an "all you can eat" pizza buffet. The club raised about $350.

The L family made about 75 pizzas. Mr. and Mrs. L are our area coordinators and previous club directors--their family helped with the pizza making.
At the end of the evening, whole pizzas sold for $5 each.
Not many brought games, but those that did seemed to have a good time.

Busy Friday

Friday was errand day. I had to go to Hendersonville to turn in T's first semester grades at Aaron Academy. Did a couple other errands then went to the car wash to wash off the salty residue from our trip.

I got home and had to go to Mr. M's to fill his pill box since we'd been gone most of the week. T made pizza for supper, then we dashed off to Portland for Pathfinder Bible Achievement practice. The Area level event is on Jan. 24--stay tuned to see how our team does.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Over all, a good day.

I studied for my algebra final for a couple hours this morning--took a break and did some errands and started lunch--T finished fixing it since it was my birthday.

Studied for a couple more hours this afternoon--hope all the questions on the test are the easy ones from the review!

M and T took me to Pizza Hut and then for ice cream at suppertime to celebrate. (L was taking her next to last final.) Then they bought me a book I wanted--Debbie Macomber's lastest book--just came out today--"Twenty Wishes".

I got a couple e-cards, a couple cards in the mail, a hand delivered card from Daddy, and phone calls from both brothers.

A very nice day.

It's off to (Home) School (group) we go!

We went to our homeschool group today. They meet monthly on the first Monday of the month at a church about 30 miles from home. The kids are divided into groups (teens, tweens, etc.) and do different activities. The moms who aren't working with the kids directly have a meeting of their own--today's was about organic gardening. The above is a group picture of the kids in our homeschool group (someone was taking pictures for the yearbook--I snapped this one while everyone was still posing).

We signed up for a couple of field trips, reserved a year book, and then collected our pizza (one of the moms handles ordering pizza for those who sign up the week before--then Papa John's delivers it to the church) and went to the park to eat it.
