Trip to Roan Mountain--Part 4

Because of all the rain, we spent a lot of time in the cabin--playing Uno (and other games), visiting, and eating.

KY-TN Conference Pathfinder Camporee--part 1

Our conference Pathfinder Camporee began on Thursday, October 23. Three of our Pathfinders were unable to attend, so our group consisted of seven Pathfinders, four staff, one staff kid, and three other adults. We left the church parking lot at about 12:30 p.m.

The camporee was held at Salt Lick Creek Campground which was about an hour and a half away--near Carthage. This is an Army Corp. of Engineers campground that is made available to our camporee after the campground closes for the winter. Our Pathfinder clubs have exclusive use of the campground for the camporee.

The day was cool but sunny. As soon as we selected our campsite, the kids found a pile of leaves to play in.

Next, everyone helped unload the trailer so we could set up camp.
Tents were set up. One tent for the girls,
and two tents for the boys.
Two additional tents were set up for staff and one for extra supplies.
A dining canopy was erected.
And, a screen tent put up for the cooking area.

Our Family Camping Trip

The first weekend in October, our family went camping at Bledsoe Creek State Park. We got there on Friday evening, set up camp and ate burgers for supper. Sabbath morning, M and I walked along the shore line and saw deer and lots of birds (Cardinal, Mourning Dove, Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Crow, Killdeer, Blue Jay, Great Egret, Mallard, Coot, Robin, Carolina Wren, Downy Woodpecker).

T relaxed at camp and read for a while. For lunch, we had haystacks--T cooked the beans over the fire and cut up the avocado.

After lunch, T washed up and then we all relaxed.

Supper was hot dogs (veggie, of course) cooked over the fire.

T also tried his hand at cooking "bread on a stick" over the fire.

Sunday morning, M and I took another walk along the lake. We saw a Bay Breasted Warbler and a Black-throated Green Warbler by a little stream plus ducks and egrets on the lake. Then, we packed up and came home (after having to get the car jumped to leave the campground).

Mid KY-TN Area Pathfinder Staff Campout

The last weekend in September, we went to a campout for Pathfinder staff in our area at Bledsoe Creek State Park.

We arrived shortly before dark and set up our campsite. (We were so late because we had to wait until M got off work and then pick up the car from the shop, bring it home and load it up, then drive to the park). We had sandwiches for supper since we got there too late to cook before the group worship at 7:00.

Sabbath morning, M and I walked the shoreline trail.

We got back from our walk in time for the group worship at 10:30 which was followed by a potluck lunch.

I'd Rather be Blogging...but Life keeps Happening!

It's been a busy two weeks since my last blog. Items of note during those two weeks:

  • The station wagon spent a week at the shop getting a different transmission
  • It still won't pass the emissions test
  • The area Pathfinder staff went on a campout
  • The car needed jumped on Monday
  • The ground cable on the battery had to be replaced on Thursday
  • The car needed jumped this morning
  • I had an algebra test
  • We went camping

Will try to add new posts about our camping trips as soon as I can.
