Peaches--round 2

Another of our peach trees came through with peaches on it. M collected about 2 ice cream buckets of golf ball sized peaches and trimmed them. This time we cooked the peaches until soft and then ran them through a food mill.

T helped stir while it came to a rolling boil.

I filled the jars.

We got 18 jars of peach jam--yes, it set up this time and it doesn't have big chunks of peaches. I may try to re-do the last batch with the chunky floating peaches.

Let the canning begin!

M picked a couple of ice cream buckets full of peaches from the front yard tree this morning. He and T peeled, pitted, trimmed, and sliced them.
I got the canning kettles ready to make preserves (since that was what M wanted).
Here's the peachy sweet stuff--the pieces are kind of big--the recipe didn't say what size, it just said 8 cups of chopped peaches.
Everything is ready--just waiting to put the peachy stuff in jars.

And here you have it! Thirteen jars of peachy sweet stuff! Looks too chunky to spread on bread--don't know if it will set up--but it will be peachy and sweet on waffles or vanilla ice cream.

How our yard and garden does grow!

Our garden is growing fairly well. We have gotten a good bit of squash from it--haven't preserved any yet, just cooking it for meals. The corn is nearly ready--just a few more days.
The gladiolas are nearly done blooming, but I found this one still in bloom.

The apple trees in our orchard are full--too bad we don't know what kind they are.
The peaches in the orchard are still green.
But the peaches on the tree in the front yard are ready, nearly. Ripe enough for the beetles.
