Mr. Hummer

The promised picture. Mr. Hummer was back on Monday. He hasn't been here long enough to be used to me being on the porch while he's feeding, so this picture was taken through the window.

They're Here!!!

Thursday was a beautiful, warm, sunny day. I swept the porch; washed the porch swing; washed, filled, and hung the hummingbird feeders.
Today, we were visited by a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird--our first of the year! It was too close to dark to take any pictures--but you can be sure I'll post some when I get some!

Serendipity!

I just saw a hummingbird! I was looking out the front window and a hummingbird flew up to one of the feeders (yes, they are still out). The lighting was terrible and my binoculars wouldn't focus that close, so I don't know if it was a Ruby-throated or some stray. This is the latest sighting we have on record for a hummingbird.

Update: The hummingbird came back and perched on a branch outside the bedroom window--the lighting was better. I'm pretty sure it was a female Ruby-throated--checked the bird guide and it didn't look like anything else.
