Florida Trip--Wakulla Springs State Park

Our first day in Florida we went to the Wakulla Springs State Park. We went on two boat tours--one in the morning and the other in the evening. We saw lots of really neat birds and animals on the tours--some of which I was able to get pictures of, and some of which I didn't.

This is one of the tour boats at the park.

This is the lodge--built in the 1930's--now used as a hotel, restaurant and gift shop.

A Little Blue Heron.

Some Wood Ducks.

A Green Heron (the dark spot in the center of the picture).

A Snowy Egret--you can't see them but at the end of its black legs are bright yellow feet.

An alligator sunning itself on a log.

An Osprey on a nest.

A Great Egret--scratching its head.

A Yellow-crowned Night Heron.

We saw a Manatee and its young--the pictures of both didn't show up as well as this one.

This is a White Ibis in juvenile plumage.

This is a White Ibis in adult plumage.

An Anhinga drying itself in the sun. They don't have oil on their feathers like most water birds and have to dry out between dives.

We also saw a Least Bittern, a Purple Gallinule, an American Coot that forgot to migrate, some Common Moorhens with chicks, turtles, some Great Blue Herons, a couple Double Crested Cormorants, many alligators, lots of spanish moss and cypress trees.

It was a great day!
